63 million Nigerians are illiterate ?

2+2 ? em em em 5 ?

The Chairman of National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) Dr Esther Uduehi at International Literacy Day in Abuja stated that over 63 million Nigerians are illiterate.
She listed the main causes of illiteracy in Nigeria to include hunger, disease, maternal death, poverty, child mortality and
environmental degradation .
These illiterate adults never had the opportunity to be schooled as young people and no one is paying attention to them.

Now that NMEC Chairman has brought this to the knowledge of the government, what does the government intend to do to reduce this number to the barest minimum?

  1. In my days the govt provided evening schooling for uneducated adults. If they re introduce that now, it will go a long way to reduce the no of illiterates in nig.

  2. Evening schools still exist. Problem is lack of interest on the part of uneducated adults. Most of them believe they do not need education to succeed in life.
