Chief Audu Ogbe, Minister of Agriculture & Rural Development has raised alert on several ways Nigerians are unconsciously eating poison on a daily basis.
1. Moi-moi cooked in cellophane bags (nylon bags) contains large dosage of dioxins which is very toxic. World Health Organization's Fact Sheet on dioxins states that "Dioxins have been considered highly toxic and able to cause reproductive and developmental problems, damage the immune system, interfere with hormones and also cause cancer". 2. Sachet water (pure water) exposed to sun at over 28 degrees centigrade is poisonous leading to cases of kidney and liver problems.
3.Imported frozen chicken (chicken laps) is preserved with formalin which is also used for the preservation of dead bodies contains poisonous substance which can cause serious health issues.
4.When grains and beans are preserved with high dosage of pesticide the products become poisonous and injurious to health.
What are the solutions? We should all take note, do what we can do individually ( don't expose sachet water to hot sun, don't cook moi-moi in nylon bags, etc)and the government departments responsible for monitoring compliance on the usage of these harmful chemicals should do their job!

ReplyDeleteThey should give more details. If I put pure water in the fridge after it has bn under sun above 28 degrees, will it still be poisonous?
