Bridge Pathways’ partner schools, Colorado Mesa University (CMU), in Grand Junction, CO, has recently released a scholarship opportunity for international students. Called the International Student Merit Scholarship, it is the very first scholarship available for international students at CUM.

 Awardees are granted $8,000 per year, which is 42% of the cost of tuition. This scholarship is unique because no additional application is required.

 Bridge Pathways students will be automatically considered for the International Student Merit Scholarship along with their conditional admissions acceptance to CMU.

Additionally, the scholarship is an opportunity for international students to learn English in the United States and attend an American university without taking the TOEFL exam.

Who is eligible for the scholarship?

• Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or the U.S. equivalent of that average.
• Only undergraduate students will be considered.

What are the award details?

• The scholarship grants USD $8,000 per year ($4,000 per semester), and is renewable every semester for up to 4 years.

Choosing a career path starts in the secondary schools.Therefore, to assist the young ones in deciding their future career path, career guidance, assessment and counseling must be given to students consistently to enable them choose the appropriate subjects for their chosen courses.
Assessment, guidance and counseling should be kept simple otherwise it adds confusion to the challenge.
Things to consider TRUTHFULLY in making that all important choice include;

Where do you see yourself in five years, ten years time? 10. Have a clear view of your abilities, limitations and passion.Most importantly, it's your life, not your mother's, not your father's. Unconsciously Eating Poison?

Chief Audu Ogbe, Minister of Agriculture & Rural Development has raised alert on several ways Nigerians are unconsciously eating poison on a daily basis.

1. Moi-moi cooked in cellophane bags (nylon bags) contains large dosage of dioxins which is very toxic. World Health Organization's Fact Sheet on dioxins states that "Dioxins have been considered highly toxic and able to cause reproductive and developmental problems, damage the immune system, interfere with hormones and also cause cancer". (WHO: Dioxins and their effects on human health, Fact sheet N° 225, May 2010

2. Sachet water (pure water) exposed to sun at over 28 degrees centigrade is poisonous leading to cases of kidney and liver problems.

3.Imported  frozen chicken (chicken laps) is preserved with formalin which is also used for the preservation of dead bodies contains poisonous substance which can cause serious health issues.

4.When grains and beans are preserved with high dosage of pesticide the products become poisonous and injurious to health.
                             
What are  the solutions? We should all take note, do what we can do individually ( don't expose sachet water to hot sun, don't cook moi-moi in nylon bags, etc)and the government departments responsible for monitoring compliance on the usage of these harmful chemicals should do their job!

Writing a Statement of Purpose or Personal Statement for securing admission in a tertiary institution can be a daunting task especially if you do not know the basic rules.
Statement of Purpose for admission simply means the reasons why you wish to study your course of choice.
A good number of prospective students have fallen into the trap of "Online Ghost Writers" who sell already prepared statements to unsuspecting students who submit these ready made statements and end up scuttling their chances of admission.
Most foreign institutions will ban students from applying to study in their countries if they discover that such students lifted phrases from internet or some authors without referencing the part they copied.
The aim of Statement of Purpose or Personal Statement for Admission is to "sell yourself" to the institution, therefore, your statement of purpose should be all "you" and if you need to use copied phrases to further enhance or explain points, you must reference them properly.


Basic Statement of Purpose or Personal Statement includes the following;

Good News Alert! European Union passes a new harmonized Study Visa System.

European Union Parliament has passed a new harmonized Study Visa System for students from Non European Union countries.

The new directive is that students and researchers who complete their education in any European Union Member state will be allowed to stay at least for 9 months ( you can stay for longer) in order to look for jobs or set up businesses.

The new Study Visa Rules are intended to attract skilled Non EU International students to choose EU Member states as their top education destination.

Key benefits include EU Member states will gain highly skilled graduates who will contribute in building up their economy, students can move freely within Member States without new visa applications, Researchers can bring their family members with them and the family members are entitled to work.

 Seems to me that EU Member States want to tap into the ever increasing number of international students dissatisfied with recent harsh UK Immigration laws which took away the rights of foreign graduates to stay back in UK even for one month to seek employment and gain some work experience.
